# How it works
Experimental contactless mind-reading technology

## Guess the number experiment
* [Mind Energy's mind-reading demo](https://mind.energy/demo) aims to guess the digit (from 1 to 4) you have in mind. It's free but [tips are appreciated](https://docs.mind.energy/contributors).
* The right answers are **not guaranteed**. In our tests, the chance of the right answer was around **50%** (instead of 25% predicted by math) and dependent on many factors including your own abilities. Don't strain yourself. The technology works better if you are confident in yourself and relaxed. Sometimes it takes a few tries for the system to sync with you and start reading your thoughts correctly.
* Over time, during the day, the quality of answers for a single visitor degrades. It's an expected behavior.
* **Don’t try to trick** the system or automate access to it. In that case, it will not give you the correct answers.
* Mind Energy **doesn't spy on you**. It doesn't use your camera, mic, doesn't track mouse movements, or read other sensitive data from your browser or device to guess the number.
* To guess the number, Mind Energy relies only on **server-side technologies and "sensors"** to observe possible quantum effects. Mind Energy can not read your thoughts unrelated to or outside of "Guess the number" sessions.

# Project History
The power of a lifelong idea

* Like many other people, [Alexander Kharitonov](https://alexanderkharitonov.com) noticed a lot of odd coincidences in his life. Too many I would say, regularly through all life. He could not find explanations for them and believed that we don't know something important yet about the nature of life, physics, and humans.
* Alex was always interested in science and recent theories, he always strived to know more and find answers to the effects he observed. That's why, from childhood, he started to use his software engineering skills not only to build commercial projects but also to conduct strange but interesting experiments.
* The first successful experiments related to the theoretical base of this "impossible" project were conducted by Alex in the first half of 2003 at his 18th. He built the first hardware-software system supposed to read people's intentions, wrote analytic algorithms, conducted tests with friends by inviting them to his home and putting them in front of his PC, and collected huge statistics. However, being positive the observed effects were still too small to find practical applications. The project was put on hold.
* During 2003-2024, Alex occasionally returned to wireless human-computer interaction research but with no material progress. He still believed in his lifelong ideas and hoped that scientists would make big progress over time.
* In May 2024, 21 years after the first experiments, Alex came up with a fresh idea. A new approach aimed to improve the sensitivity and efficiency of that mind-reading technology. He conducted experiments confirming the new idea, and inspired by several scientists decided to start to work on the [Mind Energy website](https://mind.energy) as a side project during long evenings.
* On Aug 22nd, 2024, he launched [a thought-reading demo page](https://mind.energy/demo) to show the experimental technology in action. It was not perfect, did not always work, but it seems it challenges the normal distribution from probability theory.

The following terms and conditions apply to your use of the Mind Energy service. By your use of Mind Energy, you agree to be bound hereby. Mind Energy is a service owned and operated by Alexander Kharitonov ("we" or "us").
**Communications with Third Parties.** Communications using the Mind Energy service are not monitored or controlled by us. By using Mind Energy, you may receive communications that you find objectionable, inappropriate, or offensive. We cannot guarantee who will or will not communicate with you using Mind Energy and assume no responsibility for any such communications using Mind Energy.
**No Illegal Use.** You may not use Mind Energy for any abusive or illegal purpose. You may not harm minors in any way. You may not "stalk" or otherwise harass other Mind Energy users.\
Mind Energy may delete, remove (without notice) any user content, accounts, or Mind Energy groups or terminate access of any user in its sole discretion, for any reason or no reason. This includes users that in the sole judgment of Mind Energy violate these rules and user content and Mind Energy groups that might be offensive, illegal, or that might violate the rights, harm, or threaten the safety of users or others, or that could adversely affect operations of Mind Energy service.
**No Spam.** You may not use Mind Energy to transmit junk mail or spam.
**Age limitation.** You must be at least 13 years old to use Mind Energy. Parents are advised to take suitable precautions to restrict the use of the Internet and the Mind Energy service by their children. Your account may be deleted without warning if it is found that you are misrepresenting your age.
**No Explicit Adult Content.** You may not post content that contains pornography, excessive violence or contains a link to an adult website to user profiles or to Mind Energy Groups. Mind Energy reserves the right to investigate and take appropriate action against anyone who, in Mind Energy's sole discretion, violates this provision, including without limitation, reporting users posting links to illegal (child) pornography to [NCMEC.ORG](http://www.ncmec.org/missingkids/servlet/PageServlet?LanguageCountry=en_US\&PageId=169), other authorities, removing the offending content from Mind Energy and blocking corresponding accounts.
**Privacy Policy.** Use of Mind Energy is subject to the Mind Energy [privacy policy](/legal/privacy).
**No Responsibility For Third Party Content.** By using Mind Energy, and Mind Energy Groups, you acknowledge that Mind Energy may act as a forum and technical means of communication between users and that Mind Energy does not evaluate or control in any ongoing manner messages or other content posted by the users. Any opinions or statements expressed by a user are those of the user only, are owned by the user, and do not belong to Mind Energy. Mind Energy does not assume responsibility for the accuracy, completeness, safety, innocuousness, slanderous nature of, legality or applicability of anything posted, displayed, linked, uploaded, recorded, broadcast or otherwise made available by any user.
**Payments, Disputes, and Refunds.** Mind Energy offers certain premium features for paid users. The transaction currency is the US dollar. For payment information processing details, please refer to [the privacy policy](/legal/privacy). If a Mind Energy user requests a refund, it may be issued only in exceptional cases, and if notification is received by Mind Energy within 21 days of the date of payment. To request a refund, you need to fill out [the form](/about/contact). Your message will be processed within a week. If issued, a refund will result in the termination of the user's access to the premium features. Paid Mind Energy users are not exempt from the usual rules: they can still be banned by moderators and flagged by other users.
**Copyright Infringement Notifications.** Mind Energy is committed to protecting the intellectual property of third parties. To file a copyright infringement notification with us, please send a written communication that includes the following (please consult your legal counsel or see Section 512(c)(3) of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act):
* A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.
* Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or, if multiple copyrighted works at a single online site are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works at that site.
* Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity and that is to be removed or access to which is to be disabled: provide exact URLs on Mind.Energy that contain images, videos or other works made available through Mind Energy that infringe your copyright. In the case of the groups, please ALSO provide THE EXACT DATE, TIME AND IF AVAILABLE THE USERNAME AS THEY APPEAR ON REPRESENTATIVE MESSAGES that contain material infringing your copyright.
* A statement that the complaining party has a good faith belief that the use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
* A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.
Please note that under Section 512(f) any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that material or activity is infringing may be subject to liability for damages. Do not make unsubstantiated claims.\
The information provided in your legal notice may be forwarded to the person who provided the allegedly infringing content.
**Ownership of Intellectual Property.** Mind Energy and all of the technology and intellectual property contained therein is owned by us.

**Disclaimer of Warranties.** We disclaim any and all responsibility or liability for the content of any communications made using Mind Energy or any harm resulting from interacting with Mind Energy.\

# Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy outlines the types of personal information we gather when you use the Mind Energy service, as well as some of the steps we take to safeguard it.
The following principles apply to the personally identifying information we ask for and that you provide. "Personally identifying information" is information that individually identifies you, such as your email address.
**Data collection**\
To register for Mind Energy, you are asked to provide your email address. You are also asked to choose a personal screen name and password. In the future, you may also provide optional information, such as your gender, country, age, and photo.
Mind Energy doesn't spy on you. It doesn't use your camera, mic, doesn't track mouse movements, or read other sensitive data from your browser or device to guess the number.
To guess the number, Mind Energy relies only on backend technologies to observe possible quantum effects. Mind Energy can not and does not read your thoughts unrelated to or outside of "Guess the number" sessions.
Mind Energy collects anonymous statistics about the digits selected by users.
**Data deletion**\
To submit a data deletion request, please contact us via [the contact form](/about/contact). Please note that these requests apply only to information that Mind Energy holds as a "controller." If your request relates to the personal data collected through a customer’s websites or digital products, you should direct your request to the owner of that website or product. Please note that you must verify your identity and request before Mind Energy will process your request. You may be required to provide email confirmation or other information in order for us to verify your identity.
**Cookies**\
When you use Mind Energy, cookies are stored on your computer. A "cookie" is a small file containing a string of characters that is sent to your computer when you visit a website. We use cookies to improve the quality of our service. Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. You can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent.
**IP addresses**\
We do store IP addresses of all incoming connections to Mind Energy servers. This information is stored for security purposes such as preventing abuse or intrusion. IP addresses contain no personal or confidential information.
**Payment Information**\
We store payment information (credit card type, card holder's name, credit card expiration date, PayPal account email) for all payments and donations made to Mind Energy. Credit card numbers are not stored on our servers. This information is only used for security purposes, such as preventing fraudulent payments.
**Information Sharing**
1. We do not sell your personally identifying information to other companies or individuals. We may share such information in the following limited circumstances:
1. We have your consent.
2. We provide such information to trusted businesses or persons for the sole purpose of processing personally identifying information on our behalf. When this is done, it is subject to agreements that oblige those parties to process such information only on our instructions and in compliance with this Privacy Policy and appropriate confidentiality and security measures.
3. We conclude that we are required by law or have a good faith belief that access, preservation, or disclosure of such information is reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Mind Energy, its users, or the public.

**Information security**
